UIBE and Leeds Students Stage "A Midsummer Dream Under the Southern Bough," Promoting Sino-British Cultural Exchange
In October 2025, during the 7th Tang Xianzu International Drama Festival in Fuzhou, Jiangxi, the production "A Midsummer Dream Under the Southern Bough" captivated audiences. This innovative play merges Tang Xianzu's "The Nanke Dream" with Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Marking the first collaboration in nearly a decade since their 2016 joint production, students and faculty from China's University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) and the UK's University of Leeds reunited. Through a creative blend of Chinese opera and Western theatre, performed bilingually, they brought Eastern and Western classics together for a "transcendent romantic encounter" in Tang Xianzu's hometown.
